Medical Groups Try To Silence Concerns Over 'Gender-Affirming' Care for Minors

What happened: The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the Children’s Hospital Association sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland that warned of “coordinated attacks” against facilities that provide “gender-affirming care.”

The “disinformation” campaign: Conservative groups, activists, and pundits have put a national spotlight on children's hospitals offering “gender-affirming care” and medical associations promoting gender transitions to children. The medical groups claim that this “campaign of disinformation” has led to “harassing emails, phone calls, and protestors at health care sites” and a bomb threat. They’re urging the Justice Department to “investigate and prosecute” those responsible and social media companies to censor this type of content.

A familiar tactic: As parents protested at school boards last year over controversial curriculum and policies, the National School Boards Association sent a letter asking Garland to investigate protesters based on a fabricated threat of “domestic terrorism.” Garland then mobilized the FBI, which reportedly began tracking parents as possible terror threats. Similarly, these medical organizations have framed mostly nonviolent backlash against transgender treatments as a national threat requiring a federal crackdown.

Big picture: Sex change procedures for minors are highly controversial despite the mainstream media’s efforts to discredit concerns. Unable to withstand the persisting criticism, these medical groups are trying to work with the federal government and Big Tech to intimidate and silence Americans.
