A New Muslim Campaign Threatens Biden’s 2024 Chances
Written by Anthony Constantini
What’s happening: Muslim leaders angry about President Joe Biden’s support for Israel announced the “#AbandonBiden National Coalition.” They represent eight swing states where they’ll try to convince Muslims to refuse to vote for Biden in 2024.
Why it matters: Muslims are larger in number than Biden’s winning margin in every swing he won in 2020. If they stay home, it could cost Biden the election. Democrats are already taking more anti-Israel positions, and this campaign could accelerate that trend.
Declining support for Israel: Even before the creation of the #AbandonBiden campaign, Democrats were already starting to turn away from their past support for the Jewish state:
Polling: A recent poll found 63% of Democrats disapprove of Israel’s ground offensive. Another showed a plurality of Democrats believe Biden is “too pro-Israeli,” and more than 2/3 of young Democrats want America to be neutral in disputes between Israelis and Palestinians.
Coming from inside the house: In early November, more than 400 Biden administration staffers signed a letter opposing the Biden administration’s support for Israel and demanding that America support a ceasefire. Many of these staffers were political appointees, handpicked by Biden’s team.
