WHAT WE'RE WATCHING

🤝 RFK Jr. could secure a position in the Trump White House. After holding talks with the former president, Kennedy is now being floated for a job in a potential Trump administration in exchange for his endorsement. Though no agreement has officially been reached, RFK remarked, “I have a lot of respect for President Trump for reaching out to me. Nobody from the DNC, high or low, has ever reached out to me.”

🥈 Kamala Harris seeks a moderate V.P. Most of the candidates reported to be front runners for Harris’ vice president are swing-state moderates like P.A. Gov. Josh Shapiro, A.Z. Sen. Mark Kelly, and N.C. Gov. Roy Cooper. Harris will need to reassure independent voters in battleground states that she is willing to ease up on more extreme policy positions like banning fracking.

😰 Kamala Harris’ staff has had an over 90 percent turnover rate. During her time as vice president, Harris’ office has been described as having “top-to-bottom dysfunction,” seeing “the departure of her chief of staff, communications director … and other aides.” Since 2021, Harris’ staffers have also reported being “treated like sh**” in a workplace of “abuse.”

💰 The Trump campaign filed an FEC complaint. Trump’s lawyers believe that Kamala Harris cannot access $91 million in Biden campaign funds, which “would constitute the single largest excessive contribution and biggest violation” of campaign finance in U.S. history. While Trump’s team is trying to block Harris from those funds, the FEC may ultimately find some process to which she can maintain access.

🙅‍♀️ Nikki Haley sent a “cease and desist” to “Haley Voters for Harris.” The former U.N. ambassador is demanding that a group of her alleged former supporters cease using her name in a newly formed group supporting Kamala Harris for president. Haley had gained traction as the moderate Republican alternative during the primaries, leaving some of her supporters to prefer the Democratic nominee over supporting Trump.
