SCOOP: Biden Admin Funds Research To Make College Biology 'More Inclusive' of Gender Identity

The scoop: The National Science Foundation, a U.S. government agency, has allocated over $900,000 to universities studying how to “create a more inclusive environment for transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming (TNG) students in undergraduate biology courses,” according to research grants reviewed by Upward News. The project began in September and has an estimated end date of August 2025.

Sex isn’t “binary”: The NSF’s grant says that “biology courses often inaccurately categorize sex and gender as binary.” This apparently ignores “the complex relationship between sex and gender” and “can make biology classrooms particularly challenging for TNG students.”

The solution: After conducting surveys and other research, scholars will use far-left theories such as “feminist phenomenology” to see how to improve transgender students’ “sense of belonging.” They will also create “professional development materials” to help instructors give students “inclusive and scientifically accurate understandings of sex and gender.”

Biden’s goal: President Joe Biden has increased the NSF’s budget in each annual spending bill—an 18 percent increase in total during his term—with the goal of promoting progressive gender ideology in scientific research. He even requested $2 million to create a “Center for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Research” in the latest spending bill, but that didn’t make it into the final version.
