Biden Is Selling Unused Parts Of Trump’s Border Wall

What’s happening: The Biden administration has been selling unused parts from former President Donald Trump’s southern border wall through an online auctioning site, GovPlanet, since April. The sales have totaled more than $2 million, the New York Post reported.

Context: Some suspect these sales are an attempted workaround of upcoming legislation to use the hundreds of millions of dollars worth of wall parts that have been sitting unused since Joe Biden took office.

  • The details: The “Finish It Act” would “make the feds use those materials on new wall construction — or hand the remaining stock over to states like Texas for use in their own border defense projects.”

Why it matters: The Biden administration is selling these parts amid record opioid deaths, many of which are due to fentanyl, which is smuggled across the border at staggeringly high rates.

  • Biden’s problem: The number of encounters at the southern border is nearly 150 percent higher now than it was during Trump’s last month in office.

  • Zoom out: Over a million immigrants illegally entered the U.S. in just the first four months of 2023, more than the populations of six different U.S. states.

  • The effects? The heightened immigration has strained sanctuary cities such as New York and Chicago, along with housing costs across the nation.
