WHAT WE'RE WATCHING

📱 Chinese diplomats are heavily lobbying against the TikTok ban. Representatives from the Chinese embassy have been meeting with Capitol Hill staff, downplaying the national security concerns posed by the social media app. Despite TikTok pouring millions of dollars into swaying Americans against the bill, Congress appears to be fast-tracking the legislation for a vote this month.

🔎 An investigation found the Kabul airport attack was unpreventable. After U.S. Central Command conducted its own investigation into the terrorist attack - interviewing a dozen soldiers who were present - they determined that it “was not preventable at the tactical level.” This conclusion contradicts the Congressional testimony of a U.S. Marine who claimed that poor leadership prevented him from killing the terrorist bomber.

💊 A House panel found China knowingly fuels the fentanyl crisis. A months-long House investigation concluded that the Chinese government “directly subsidizes the manufacturing and export of illicit fentanyl materials.” Further, they found the Chinese government funds companies involved in openly trafficking fentanyl materials and warns drug traffickers when the U.S. government plans to investigate them.

🏛 Swing state indictments mount against “fake electors.” Nevada, Georgia, and Michigan have charged 25 fake electors who were allegedly involved in the Trump team's 2020 plan to send false certificates to D.C. assigning their state's electoral votes to Trump instead of Biden. With Arizona and Wisconsin also investigating, these cases may add more legal troubles for Donald Trump.
