What’s happening: Dozens of mostly Pakistani men have been investigated for running child rape gangs in the United Kingdom. They would coerce young girls, get them addicted to drugs and alcohol, and then pass them around. By the 2020s, hundreds of suspects had been arrested.
Back in the spotlight: Late last year, a Labour government minister blocked a local request for a government-led inquiry into rape gangs, with Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips saying it should be done on a local level.
“Racist” accusations: Many criminals were not investigated because police were concerned about seeming racist, as most gangs were Pakistani and most victims were white. Police were told to arrest other ethnicities.
