Also, a GOP bill offering legal status for millions

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING

🚨 A new bill would allow millions of illegals to stay in the US. The “Dignity Act of 2025,” proposed by Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL), would let illegal migrants who arrived before 2021 stay in the country for seven years, while also passing nationwide E-Verify into law. The bill has attracted about 10 moderate House Republicans. It has drawn fury from the right, who have portrayed it as a “ruse” which will legalize tens of millions of illegals.
✂️ Congress cut funding for NPR and PBS. The House of Representatives passed the final version of the White House’s requested rescissions cuts, which formalize $9 billion in Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cuts to public broadcasting and foreign aid programs. President Donald Trump will sign the package later today. The administration has indicated that more spending cut requests will follow.
🤖 Grok is headed to the Pentagon. Elon Musk’s XAI announced that it had secured a Department of Defense contract worth $200 million. The new program will address “critical national security challenges,” though it was left vague how exactly the program would be used. xAI also revealed “Grok for government,” an AI program specifically designed for local, state, and federal government agencies.
💰 A new bill would make states pay for federal riot response. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) unveiled a bill that would require states to reimburse the federal government for resources used to prevent civil disturbances in states that do not cooperate on immigration enforcement. The bill, for example, would have required California to pay for federal actions in Los Angeles during the riots. If passed, the bill could make being a sanctuary state very expensive.
