Good morning. President Trump’s reciprocal tariffs threw the global economy into a tizzy, but they also revealed striking disagreements within the White House itself. Plus, Vice President Vance was sent on a new mission to clear woke ideology out of the Smithsonian.

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING

✅ The House passed the SAVE Act. Rep. Chip Roy’s (R-TX) Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act passed 220–208, largely along party lines, with just four Democrats joining Republicans. The bill would require individuals to show valid proof of US citizenship before registering to vote in federal elections. While House Republicans celebrated the win, the measure now faces a steep climb in the Senate, where Democrats are expected to mount strong opposition.
✅ The House passed the No Rogue Rulings Act. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), would restrict the ability of district court judges to issue nationwide injunctions. If passed by the Senate, judges would only be able to issue injunctions for parties before them, as opposed to everyone in the country. However, the bill will probably not become law, as the Republicans do not have the numbers to override a filibuster.
🚫 Speaker Johnson had to cancel a major reconciliation vote. The vote would have seen the House pass the Senate’s spending blueprint, which would have allowed negotiations on President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.” But after some hardliners demanded more cuts, Mike Johnson (R-LA) was forced to cancel the vote. There are other options that Johnson can take, such as negotiating with the Senate without passing a blueprint. But — with months ahead of fraught negotiations with the Senate — the House has to act quickly.
💰 President Trump is reportedly open to taxing the rich. Congressional Republicans are looking for ways to pay for their massive reconciliation bill, and the White House is privately saying it’s open to paying for it with taxes on America’s highest earners. The revenue raised could help fund proposals like a $5,000 child tax credit. While such a move would anger GOP donors who oppose any tax increases, it would strengthen Trump’s argument that the GOP is now a working class party.

Musk, Ackman go nuclear over tariffs

WHAT’S HAPPENING
President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs rattled international stock markets before he placed them on a 90-day pause — but they also exposed new fractures within the administration — not just between officials who support tariffs and those who don’t, but within the pro-tariff camp itself: some see tariffs as a short-term tool to achieve free trade, while others want them made permanent…
