COVID-19 Came From Chinese Bioweapon Research, U.S. Investigators Say

“It has become increasingly clear that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was involved in the creation, promulgation, and cover-up of the Covid-19 pandemic,” a State Department employee said.

Revealed: COVID-19 was formed in a lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China (WIV) with the goal of creating bioweapons, according to U.S. State Department investigators who had access to top-secret intelligence and spoke anonymously to media outlets about their findings. Most evidence available since 2021 has suggested the pandemic was due to a lab leak, though the details of China’s ambitions were unclear.

New information: Though America’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases under Anthony Fauci was also funding the previously banned research in Wuhan, researchers allege part of the research became classified, hidden from the U.S., around 2016 when Chinese ambitions pivoted from creating vaccines to developing virological weapons—which only they would have the vaccine for.

The lab leak: Around the time of the pivot, a new deadly virus was found in China that had killed multiple people. Instead of reporting the fatalities, the authorities kept quiet as researchers saw potential in developing the virus as a bioweapon. The agents said that the first people to get infected with COVID-19 were three WIV researchers. What followed was a global pandemic that killed millions.

More information coming: The U.S. government will declassify more information on the origins of the virus next week, in accordance with legislation that President Joe Biden signed in March. The FBI and Energy Department agree that the lab leak theory is the most likely origin of the pandemic, while China denies it and repeatedly blocked investigations. Journalists, academics, and Facebook once called the theory false or racist against the Chinese but are now unable to contest its credibility.
