Hulu Bows To Democrats, Changes Policy To Air Woke Ads

The Disney-owned streaming platform initially rejected Democratic Party ads denouncing Republican policies. After a backlash that claimed they were killing “Democracy,” they changed their policies.

What happened: Democratic organizations attempted to buy ads on Hulu regarding gun control policy and abortion. The ads intended to denounce Republican policies ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, but Hulu rejected that content, saying it was too “sensitive” and “controversial.”

The attack on Hulu: The Democrat committees published a joint statement that “Hulu’s censorship of the truth is outrageous, offensive, and another step down a dangerous path for our country.” As mentioned earlier, Hulu only rejected divisive political ads.

• A double standard: According to Democrats, Hulu was attacking Democracy by not airing their ads—it was censorship for them. The same political party has fought to censor political opposition on social media over the past two years.

Immediately after the attacks, Hulu reversed its policy. The company will now allow political advertisements but will still reserve the right to ask clients for edits if ads don’t meet their standards.

• Hulu’s political contributions to Democrats constitute 98.7% of their total donations. The company almost entirely aligns with the party they’re making changes for.
