Republican candidate Mayra Flores beat her Democratic challenger in a historically blue South Texas special election. She’ll be the first Mexican-born congresswoman to serve in the House.

The special election was triggered because the prior representative resigned to accept a lobbying position in D.C.
Flores will only hold the seat until January and will run again in November to permanently fill the seat. She ran a pro-God, pro-border security, pro-life, pro-oil, pro-second amendment campaign.
The district that she won is 85% percent Latino. Joe Biden also won that district by four points in the 2020 election. Mayra Flores, however, won the seat by seven points.
It signals the conservative shift among Latino voters, especially in Texas. During the 2020 election, historically blue Latino communities shifted red. That shift is now more robust and could manifest in a historic red wave in November.
The first time Elon Musk voted Republican. Musk revealed that his vote for Flores was the first time he had ever voted Republican. He also mentioned that he anticipates a “massive red wave in 2022.”
