Recent moves by X and Telegram to work with authorities have led some free speech advocates to wonder if censorship will become commonplace.
Elon Musk’s X agreed, at the behest of Brazil’s government, to shut down several accounts on the platform and appoint a legal representative in the country in exchange for X being unblocked. Brazil’s position as X’s third-largest market likely influenced his decision to comply with censorship demands.
