UFO Whistleblowers Testify To Congress

What happened? A House Oversight subcommittee held a hearing on Wednesday regarding the possible existence of unidentified flying objects. Three former military officials testified before Congress, saying the Pentagon has been actively hiding what it knows about extraterrestrial life for decades. Former intelligence official David Grusch, one of the hearing’s witnesses, publicly claimed in June that the federal government runs a classified UFO program and possesses “non-human” spacecraft.

Reason to doubt: At this time, no evidence of the existence of UFOs has been provided in a public capacity to support whistleblowers’ claims. Grusch and the two other witnesses used vague and ambiguous language when answering congressmen’s questions. Further, Grusch had never witnessed the alleged alien evidence firsthand.

Bipartisan support: Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have been vocal advocates for investigating UFO sightings and the government’s alleged “coverup.” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) said Wednesday that the Pentagon and intelligence community have put up “roadblocks” to impede the congressional investigation. Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) echoed a similar sentiment, calling for greater transparency on what the committee considers a bipartisan issue.

What’s next? The investigation is far from over as lawmakers will conduct research “in a more confidential setting,” according to Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.). Bipartisan legislation, like creating new committees for transparency and centralized reporting systems for unidentified aerial phenomena, could come next.

• Still, despite the federal government putting the topic of aliens and UFOs front and center, many are skeptical of its validity and motive. It’s no surprise considering the near all-time low trust in federal institutions.
