_WHAT’S HAPPENING_

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is now distancing herself from the progressive positions she championed during the pandemic era, dismissing the period as "Woke 1" and suggesting the rhetoric used then is no longer appropriate.

In an interview on ABC's "This Week," Ocasio-Cortez laughed off questions about her past support for defunding the police and other radical positions, joking that "Woke 1 was crazy."

In all fairness, any person can learn and take new positions on any issue. However, unless she were to admit what she previously stood for and communicate the change and why she has a new position, it’s just noise and we would do well to keep bringing it up. If she cannot articulate her current positions ( I doubt she can, as she is pretty much an air-head), then we only have her record to rely on as an assessment. And her record is about as far left as it gets.

Anyone can change, but it must backed up with action and not just words, which most politicians are good at. And if there was real change it's usually when someone goes through some profound and humbling experience.

NO! As recently seen, politicians flip flop to what they feel is required to get the vote, then back to their real beliefs.

She did not repent, she just laughed off the insanity that she avowed.

AOC will never be able to shake her idiot statements/wokeness. A hypocrite and liar. A forked tongue.
In the game to enrichen herself and cause racial division. Antisemitic. A racist. Open hatred towards Anglo-Saxon peoples. She is one of Satan's minion. A perfect candidate for DEMS POTUS.
Thus guarantee a Republican win.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I once made idiot statements, was a hypocrite and a liar with a forked tongue. It took joining the Green Party and living on a commune that woke me up to the truth. I spent years making lifestyle, mental and political changes; but, I was able to shake my own past and eventually be forgiven.

I'm just saying - I understand your anger! I get that, but unless you're as perfect as Jesus, I don't believe you can stand behind your comment. What if she made actual, measurable changes and became the best GOP since sliced bread? Wouldn't that be better than hate?

I’m not seeing any changes in AOC. She is just distancing herself from her own stupid ideas that would hurt her in a nationwide election. How anyone could ever believe the crap that she has put out there is beyond me. She is a low intelligence politician and now she is clearly demonstrating that she thinks we are stupid, too. We won’t forget what she said. That’s just holding her accountable.

No no and no way. Her woke past needs to be alive and well always. She needs to be out of politics.

I wouldn’t trust her!!! She is a radical person and just wants the presidency.

No! There's no reason to think she's really changed her beliefs, only her messaging to attract centrists. Even if she truly backed off, she would need more time to develop the wisdom that a leader should have. Trump's past was thoroughly investigated and greatly used against him. Treat her the way she treated him.

Yes, I think she should move away from her woke movement and she should also move to another country!!!

She is following the rule book of the Virginia governor. Say what you need to so you can get elected. Once elected, do what you want. Something about a tiger and it's stripes.

Remember what's happening in Virginia....Spamburger (or however the hell you spell it) ran as a moderate....as soon as she was in that Commonwealth went to hell in a handbasket....restrictions, taxes, ultra liberalism....

Avatar

By "NO" means should she be allowed to walk back her extreme views!

Avatar

Jim Harmon2 months ago

Of course she should. The real question is whether she's serious. If she truly becomes more moderate, the left could use more moderate voices. However, it's more likely she's softening her rhetoric in order to hopefully secure a bid for President. If she's the democratic nominee, I'll bet, if elected, her new moderate stance disappears and the "woke 1" becomes woke 2.

Absolutely not. She would have to spend the next two years, at least, working as hard within Congress and outside as she has worked on behalf of the progressive disasters she has helped gain traction. Denouncing Mamdani. Pulling far away from B. Sanders. etc., all without spending a minute or a dime on running for President.

Avatar

Cheri O2 months ago

Absolutely not! She and her ilk will be the downfall of this country. She doesn't understand our history and measures it against today's standards. Her lack of historical understanding to move us forward responsibly just whips up the ignorant masses for a supposed quick fix. She's a poser for her own personal gain.

Avatar

I think her stances are the same. She, like many other progressives and leftwing radicals, is only trying to mask her true feelings and beliefs. She is a political "chameleon" just like many others. Her motto, "Win and all costs". She is a fan dancer!

Avatar

Hey, it's a free country, so she can do whatever she wishes; however, my wish is that she buries herself in hypocrisy with this lame attempt to reinvent her past. Sadly, the media will protect her, and when you combine that with the double-digit IQ of leftist voters, she might get away with it. Smart folks who think for themselves won't fall for it.

Avatar

Villo Heimerman2 months ago

She is now truly a politician…saying what she thinks people want to hear in order to get votes. Plain and simple! I would not trust her or her judgement on any topic.

Avatar

Will H.2 months ago

No. She’s nuts, and she is only trying to say the right things to appeal to a larger swath of liberals. That leopard has not changed it’s spots.

Just telling us she's "evolved" never should be enough! Let her prove it the hard way, by sponsoring responsible legislation and achieving a voting record that belies her past.

Avatar

Yes, but only if she is held accountable for past transgressions. Seriously either way she doesn’t stand a chance of becoming the next president. Too much crazy history.

Yes, I don't have the same opinions I once had, but that does not erase her current promotion of communist ideologies.
