🇺🇸 DOJ launches largest denaturalization effort in history. The Department of Justice filed complaints against 24 individuals accused of obtaining citizenship through fraud or concealment of crimes ranging from attempted murder to child sexual abuse. Acting AG Todd Blanche called the effort "only the beginning."

⚖️ DOJ gives Maryland schools seven-day ultimatum. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon demanded a Maryland school district stop hiding student “gender transitions” from parents. The district allows students to use preferred names and pronouns without parental approval, which the DOJ argues violates federal education privacy law.

🗳️ Virginia restores voting rights to 66,000 felons. Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) announced the restorations shortly after state records revealed 6,531 noncitizens were removed from voter rolls under her Republican predecessor Glenn Youngkin. Research shows felons who regain voting rights lean Democrat, but not overwhelmingly so.

🇮🇷 Trump blasts Iran for denying negotiations are taking place. After the President reportedly agreed to call off strikes following negotiations, Iranian officials claimed they were only negotiating with Oman over shipping routes. Trump called Iranian leadership "unbelievably duplicitous," claiming the Strait of Hormuz remains under US Navy control.

Q: Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy discussed updating air traffic control systems at larger airports after becoming head of DOT. What is the current status of that project? — Mike from South Carolina

A: After Duffy took over at DOT, there was some pretty good progress being made. Congress passed a $12.5 billion funding package last year specifically for ATC upgrades, covering new radar systems, updated communication infrastructure, and facility improvements at major US airports.

The FAA also announced contracts with technology vendors and began replacing decades-old copper wire systems with fiber optic and digital infrastructure. This is important and much-needed progress. And although the Biden administration passed around $5 billion in funding for ATC projects, many of them were stalled under former Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg.

Duffy and the FAA are still saying they need $20 billion more to finish the job — so they’re passing the buck onto Congress.

Even with these upgrades, the on-the-ground airline experience is still a disaster. Flight delays are still rampant, shortages of exhausted airport staff still haven't been solved (the FAA is still roughly 3,000 air traffic controllers short of its target) — and the modernization timeline stretches years into the future, meaning the fixes Duffy is touting won't be felt by most passengers anytime soon.

Instead, he launched a web series about American infrastructure that nobody will watch. Good progress is being made, but getting more airport staff and air traffic controllers is priority number one.
