WHAT WE'RE WATCHING

🇩🇪 German police shoot Islamist terrorist at Pride event. Abdul Ballout, who just rammed a car into a Pride parade in Germany, had previously fled to Lebanon before German authorities flew him back for trial on terrorism charges. He was convicted in May 2026 but was then released. Authorities ordered him to attend de-radicalization counseling; he responded with a terrorist attack two months later.

🗳️ Federal court blocks Trump's mail ballot order. The 1st Circuit Court of Appeals denied the Justice Department’s request to enforce key parts of Trump's executive order tightening mail-in voting rules in 23 Democratic-led states. The order directs DHS to compile citizen voter lists and instructs USPS to establish new ballot standards.

📈 Americans "not in the labor force" hits record high. June saw 832,000 workers drop out, pushing the total above Great Recession and COVID-era highs. One labor economist warns that roughly 7 million prime-age men have left the workforce entirely, spending "2,000 hours a year in front of a screen."

🪵 Maine Dems find Graham Platner replacement. A fifth-generation logger and former state Senate president replaced disgraced candidate Graham Platner after rape allegations sank his campaign. Republicans are framing Troy Jackson as a "scandal-plagued political insider," though polling suggests he may perform more strongly against Susan Collins than Platner.
