Foreign bots behind the conspiracists

Q: How much of the volume and revenue behind provocateurs like Candace Owens comes from foreign sources and bots? — Denise, Branson, MO

A: There are two separate questions here: whether foreign bot networks amplify these figures, and whether foreign actors have reason to do so. The answer to both is yes.

There is growing evidence that openly antisemitic, anti-Israel figures benefit from foreign engagement masquerading as American support.

Nick Fuentes, for example, has seen significant amplification from accounts operating outside the United States — many originating in countries such as India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Malaysia, and Indonesia, posing as American users.

The incentive is straightforward. America’s adversaries benefit when domestic attention is redirected toward hating Israel rather than scrutinizing hostile regimes — or grappling with the deeper ideological conflict between Islamism and the West.

Nearly every geopolitically ambitious state runs influence operations, including bot farms. The US does it. Israel does it. And so do our enemies.

As for money, Qatar has openly poured significant resources into courting American political influencers, hosting and promoting figures whose messaging conveniently aligns with its interests. This can sound conspiracy-ish, but it is simply how modern influence works.
