_WHAT’S HAPPENING_
The Department of Justice has indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), accusing the longtime civil rights nonprofit of secretly funneling more than $3 million to individuals — supposedly “informants” — tied to white supremacist and extremist groups.
Some of the individuals were tied to groups like the Ku Klux Klan and the American Nazi Party, and even bankrolled an individual who helped coordinate the 2017 “Unite the Right” white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
SPLC leadership has forcefully denied wrongdoing, calling the allegations false and politically motivated.
