Heartbreaking Uvalde Shooting Updates

The story has dramatically changed. Why? The initial timeline given by Uvalde officials was inaccurate. New details have emerged since Friday’s press conference.

What was reported before: It was initially reported that police had been outside the school for almost an hour as the shooter was barricaded in a classroom. The testimony implied the police likely believed there was no urgency because the shooter was contained.

What’s being reported now: The shooter arrived at the school at 11:28 a.m and began firing rounds into school windows. Local officers entered the school at 11:35, two minutes after the shooter. There were 19 officers in the hallway by 12:03 p.m., but they did not breach the door and kill the shooter until 12:50, even as they heard him firing.

Students were calling 911 from 12:03 to 12:47, asking for police for help. The breach did not happen until 12:50.

Law enforcement was given orders to hold back from engaging the shooter. At the press conference, officials acknowledged that it was the wrong decision.
