_WHAT’S HAPPENING_
A gunman opened fire Saturday night at the Washington Hilton hotel during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, injuring a Secret Service agent and triggering the evacuation of President Donald Trump, Cabinet members, and lawmakers. Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Allen of California.
According to federal officials, Allen allegedly wrote and distributed a manifesto before the attack outlining his intent to target Trump administration officials.
He was subdued after reportedly rushing a Secret Service checkpoint armed with multiple weapons. The injured agent, who was struck in his ballistic vest, is expected to recover. Allen has previously been aligned with left-wing causes and denounced Trump as a “pedophile, rapist, and traitor.”
