WHAT’S HAPPENING

Macklemore, the rapper famous for his 2012 single “Thrift Shop,” was removed from the remaining dates of Ed Sheeran's US stadium tour after multiple venues objected to his pro-Palestinian messaging during opening performances.

The decision came after Macklemore performed a protest song and called for a "Free Palestine" at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, sparking backlash from Jewish advocacy groups.

Yes, and for the reasons that you pointed out in "Our Take". When freedom of speech imposes burdens on the sponsor of the event, they have the right to remove him from future performances. When your "right" penalizes, financially and socially, others, it is no longer "free speech".

He had a hit in 2012? What better way to revive a go-nowhere career than to step into the Gaza cesspool of misinformation. Let him arrange his own venues with the other four brainwashed bands to do their own shows, own productions, own ticket sales... and he'll see it's not a 1st amendment issue. He can spout whatever gibberish he likes that misinforms the brainless that might still want to pay to hear him. I think the first thing he'll notice is that people bought tickets to see Sheeran, not him. I might also suggest that the venues that continue with Macklemore simultaneously show the graphic horrors that the October 7th massacre was... alongside whatever photos he has displayed behind him.

Artists (like Macklemore, Ed Sheeran) etc ofc have the right of freedom of speech and about matters and issues that matter to them. However, I do believe that stadiums also have the right to remove them from setlists when they bring hate speech to a global and national stage. People came to enjoy music, not listen to political activism. Celebrities have been far too comfortable using very public platforms for propaganda for far too long, and sadly this is especially true when it comes to pop.

Of course. He wasn’t dropped from street corners. His right to free speech is intact.

Dale Lytle Absolutely people go to concerts for music not politics. When will all performers learn there are other opinions than theirs

They will learn when the tickets don’t sell. I guess capitalism does work.

Yes, definitely. If he had been promoting hate against the muslim terrorist the Progressive’s would have tried to burn the stadium down and there would have been law suites.

Of course he should have been dropped. If I was trying to lead a coalition of people to find solutions to the Israeli/Palestine issue and someone I chose continued to yell Israel sucks(even though they promised not to)—I would probably drop that person from the coalition. But as we know—few mature, nuanced view points these days—mostly childish, propaganda driven rants!!

I'm glad Sheeran's tour dropped macklemore from the lineup. Sheeran's goal was to take politics out of the tour from the start and macklemore breached that agreement. Not to mention the message he was pushing is vile. The leftists in the US pushing for a "free palestine" either don't understand that for the agenda for a "free palestine" to happen would mean the extermination of the Israeli people. For a group who supposedly does not agree with "hate speech" or "hate crimes" they seem to be supporting a large amount of antisemitic actions.

Love it or leave it. Why should owners be punished by decreased attention because of Anti American fools like this guy. If you want to live in a different culture go there. We are OK without you and your outside beliefs.

Absolutely dropped, for one thing he speaks in total ignorance of what is happening in the region and likely just because it has become popular among the “virtue signaling” crowd. He acted in a chillingly offensive way towards Jewish people and other astute observers of history.

Macklemore is free to take his F-America tour to Canada, Mexico, Iran, and wherever else they might agree with his commie anti-Semitism. Maybe he can get a few garage bands to tag along. It won't take long for any of them to realize that hate speech and ticket sales aren't particularly compatible.

When he is the headliner, he can to as he wishes but when he is just an opening act he needs to go by the rules of the main act. Entertainers should not be political. Not their job; they are there to entertain, not try to influence.

He wasn't being paid to give a political speech. He was hired to spew the garbage that poses as "art" or "music".
