President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs rattled international stock markets before he placed them on a 90-day pause — but they also exposed new fractures within the administration — not just between officials who support tariffs and those who don’t, but within the pro-tariff camp itself: some see tariffs as a short-term tool to achieve free trade, while others want them made permanent.
