What’s happening: Yesterday, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. Almost immediately, he signed a flurry of extraordinarily consequential executive orders. Here are some of the biggest ones you need to know:
Ending birthright citizenship: President Trump signed an executive order targeting automatic citizenship for US-born children of migrants in the country illegally. The order specifies that children born to “unlawfully present” mothers and “non-US citizen” fathers will not automatically receive US citizenship. This order challenges the long-standing interpretation of the 14th Amendment and is likely to face legal battles.
