Protests Explode in Mexico Over Cartel Control

We've ignored Mexico, Central America, and South America too long. We have been involved in the rest of the world but not our own hemisphere. We better get our priorities straight and try to make them our first priority.

Not with soldiers. Military equipment and Intelligence help may be appropriate. Anything more will just get us dragged into a never ending war. The Progressives would love it also as an argument to use against Trump’s people in the next election. Using intelligence could also possibly find connections between International Terrorist and the Progressive Socialist party actively working in our government, aka the deep state.

I am of two minds on this: (1) The USA cannot singlehandedly police the world's evils. But (2) They are at our back doorstep.

Many of the problems in the United States originate from or through Mexico. The US must keep pressure on and be vigilant of Mexico in order to deter, control and steer problems away from the US. There are many things the US can do indirectly to accomplish this. We can't just ignore the situation hoping it will go away, it will not.

It seems undeniable that the cartels are funding many politicians in Mexico, and the reason the leadership does not want the USA to intervene.

This is not only a "Mexico situation" issue. This very directly effects the U.S. as this is where they produce and distribute the cartels poisonous drugs and funnel it through the U.S./Mexico border. For Sheinbaum to reject U.S. involvement in solving their cartel crisis speaks volumes of how corrupt and tied her administration is to said cartels. Well guess what lady, we're not asking for your permission as this is a national security threat to the U.S. and we will do what's necessary to end these parasites where ever they exist. Trump and his Admin. best make this a priority as it's gone on for far to long and costed countless and estimated millions of lives over the span of the past decades.. Of course people need to practice a modicum of responsibility/intelligence and not inject poisons into their bodies. Come on folks, do better..

I'm with the one who says "Not yet." Keep an eye on it. It looks like as of today some of the Mexican ppl themselves will revolt against the corruption, etc in the government. And in the meantime, continue to blast away the perpetrators.

It appears that we really have no choice. We must make sure that our boarders are secure and safe, and making sure that the flow of drugs across that boarder is stopped is integral to that security. It does appear that the Mexican government is involved with the cartels. How could any legitimate government allow the murder of 87 local officials? This looks to be evidence that the government is either ineffective or in collusion with the cartels. Either way or action is required for national security. Bob Tasker

No. It's one thing to eradicate the cartel boats bringing drugs into our country and it's another thing to enter another country and blast the cartels without permission from the leader of that country. Even with permission, I'm not sure I'd want my children fighting on foreign soil in an unprovoked war.

We could just make all drugs legal and then impose tariffs? No kidding, controlling a market is a way to eradicate the competition. As long as drugs are illegal, we'll have the cartels. After all... if I want to go to the grocery store and buy a gallon of bleach to drink and kill myself, I can do that cheaply, no problem. Drug users have made the same suicidal decision, but they make it a longer, slower more expensive death which weighs in heavily on society. Let them have all the drugs they want at a low price and the cartels disappear. After all, there are plenty of alcoholics who are killing themselves but I don't see any bootleggers around anymore.

Before reading any of the readers responses, I thought: 1) No, as long as all of that violence and influence does not infiltrate any aspect of the USA. 2) However, Yes, if some of it does, such as Mexicans illegally crossing the (southern) border, and likewise with their drug trade and any other illicit harmful practices. It was very obvious months ago when Trump offered Sheinbaum US military assistance against the (drug) cartels, which she turned down, that obviously she caters to the cartels. Wow, that was just all pointed out in the little Upward expose about this situation. As some of you readers like to say: "follow the money", yep, follow the Crime $$$$$.

Nope. Just like with China, the US should wait it out. I.e. the Mexican and Chinese govt's do NOT reflect the will of the average citizen. And it's obvious too! Why do you think so many families migrate from those two countries? B/c the gov'ts are corrupt. China and Mexico will eventually implode. Until then, the US should work on itself first.
