My gut reaction is to give the troops arrest authority to facilitate cleaning up DC faster. And I'm praying that once DC is stabilized, the administration will find a legal way to come clean up Portland, Oregon.

Looks to me like they're doing a good job, so far. I'll trust that for now.

This isn’t a simple, cut-and-dry situation. They need to adapt and adjust as circumstances change. If that means granting the National Guard temporary police powers, then I support it—on a limited basis.

But remember this: every move conservatives make, the liberals and RINOs will try to twist, amplify, and ultimately wreck. I wouldn’t be surprised if a Democrat president declared martial law someday—not for peacekeeping, but as a means to tighten control over conservatives and law-abiding citizens. Just look at how they abused power during COVID.

I think escalating the role of the troops to include arresting criminals should only be done if the DC police remain overwhelmed. However, compromise should not be an option. The ultimate goal is to make DC safe. Perhaps using the troops as law enforcement if DC police ask for that assistance rather than wholesale authority could avoid a slippery slope.

If DC police were free to be LEO's and able to maintain order, Muriel's city would not have needed help. We must remember, and remind others, that DEMOcrats support criminal "rights" and violent gang members. NOT the US citizenry.

I would definitely say leave the National Guard troops in support roles only. Being present is probably the biggest thing. Beyond that, help where needed. I’m assuming National Guard members do not receive training like police do, knowing how to arrest someone, laws and rights, etc. Do not put those people in a position they are not equipped to be in. That would be overwhelming and start to cause problems. I am thankful for their service and praying for protection.

Yes, give them the authority to arrest them. Make this efficient!!! This should be an example for liberal cities who think criminals deserve more rights than hard working citizens. Thank you ACLU for turning once beautiful cities into chaos and uncivilized

If the military personnel are trained military police, they should be used accordingly. Other military personnel should remain in support roles.

If the extra manpower is needed, then yes give the troops full authority to arrest.

They should remain in support as long as the DC Metro PD is up to the task of swiftly cleaning up the mess. The real issue remains with the piss poor judicial system and Leftist City Council rolling over for criminals.

Seems like we're hamstringing the N.G. a bit by not providing arresting powers. This is not the most logistical way to approach it. We already know there is a corruption problem within the D.C. PD and useless "mayor" Bowser so it makes sense for the Guard to take a more hands on approach to make sure the job gets done from beginning to end. Hopefully this is just a staging ground to set the tone and that this extends to all corrupt Socialist city/states that allow chaos to reign supreme. Ultimately you have to remove and prosecute Leftist shill "leadership" in these D.S. blue havens and you'll see these problems start disappearing across the nation permanently. What we have right now is yet another temporary band-aid..

Support roles only. Only allowed to use equal force for self defense and minimal force to execute arrests.

Police are probably trained differently than war fighters. Giving them a more aggressive role might not be prudent. Perhaps just keep them in support positions until they can be trained for a more permanent impact.

A potential problem with the NG making arrests is that they could inadvertently, because of insufficient training, do something that could result I a criminal beating a charge because of a technicality

IMHO……if the D.C. police officers aren’t doing their jobs, then by all means, give the military control to get the crime handled! The Dumbacrats have destroyed any kind of lawness, hidden the crime statistics and are doing everything in their power to stop the POTUS from doing his job, so they too should be rounded up and thrown in jail! He only has 4yrs to fix this country, so I’m in support of doing everything at his disposal to try and restore the country to what it was before Obama and Biden tried to destroy it! I’ve never in my 55yrs seen so many people hate their country! If people were acting like they are now in a Communist country, they would disappear and never be heard from again!
