Republicans Shift Gears After Election Blowouts

As long as voters remain short sighted and expect bandaid fixes from government, we won't be able to solve the economic problems. We have exported jobs and manufacturing for decades and are now feeling the consequences. That won't be reversed in a two year election cycle. I believe Donald Trump made that clear. Yes we all care about affordability but it isn't gonna happen if we go back to Democrat tax and spend politics.

I've been waiting for relief at the grocery stores, but even our lowest-priced markets - Aldi and Sav-a-lot - have had to raise prices, making balancing a budget to accommodate growing heating oil and electric prices compete with putting complete meals on the table. Even turkeys are higher in price than in past years and I'll have to wait 'til after T'giving to buy one at discount for my Christmas celebration. I'm feeling as if we have entered a Dickensonian time-warp. Trump's first term was much more comfortable and comforting, which leads me to believe that there was an unfair election in 2020. The whole country was better off with Trump and there couldn't have been that many voters behind Biden, with his poor connection to Obama. Most Americans are NOT Brain-Dead enough to have believed Trump was a worse choice than Biden, who didn't even campaign, probably due to his thinking problems. He had been protected right from the git-go!

I personally don’t understand voters thinking their best economic future lies with Democrats. The difference in the economy between Biden’s four years of record inflation to 9 months of Trump’s presidency is stark. Gas prices’s decline and continued decline is proof of better days ahead. Trump asked the public to bear with him on tariffs, so I don’t understand the impatience of voters. It just shows how fickle people are who vote Democrat.

Everyone got behind Trump because he was going to run gov as a business man and MAGA. Doge was to be a driving force pointing out issues and programs to be corrected and money recovered this has all dissolved into nothing being made permanent and two giant egos in a public fight! Oh well let’s go off and solve the world problems , come on guys back to basics focus focus focus fight fight fight!

Today's question (which Upward needs to post at top of readers replies) is: "Is the economy a winning issue for Republicans?" Answer: YES & NO !! Today's overall economy is much better than under Yoey's 4 years of extreme inflation. And yet that did not matter in last week's election even though the polls said it was about "affordability". That showed just how stupid blindsided way too many voters are. However, the Repubs do a super lousy job of positive messaging of their accomplishments. Caroline Leavitt is excellent at it but the party and individual Repubs need to learn how to promote their positives.

The Republicans lost because they reverted back to the same old and tired style politicking of the past. To win, just keep tell the truth about HOW conservative ideals will save the day and the future for EVERY American, be the UNITERS, and for heaven sake get the word out where the leftist media can't kill it.

Yes, but they need to point out the successes of their policies more. From Congresspersons, Senators and state office holders. They need to point out specifics and tout the benefits.

While it’s great having the US lead in world affairs particularly Gaza agreement, supporting Ukraine against the Communist threat of Russian expansion , the reduction of Iran’s capacity to wage terrorist attacks thru puppets such as Hamas, Hezbollah , Houthi and other, we always need to be aware of family table issues of workforce opportunities , energy prices, food costs and spikes and crime. Biden couldn’t deliver nor convince the American public of any success in those areas and paid for it in the massive defeat in the last Presidential election. ‘Full tummies make friends, empty tummies make enemies’

I am a Republican Voter that split the vote in PA to retain Liberal Supreme Court Justices. Unitl the GOP decides to give up on abortion, the country will see them as backwards.

Until recently, the entirety of my life had been under Roe v. Wade and now it's gone. I am a Pro-Choice Republican. I believe people can decide if it is right or wrong and we don't need the government to do that for them. I think everyone who is opposed ought to adopt a crack baby and let us know how it's going.

The economy is a winning strategy IF the GOP takes tangible steps to relieve economic stress. Those steps must be up front and visible. Trump needs to return to the streets to give citizens confidence in the future. They have accomplished so much in less than a year in office. Their campaign going forward needs to include the accomplishments and that Trump has done what he said, unlike those on the left who depend on rhetoric without substance.

It is a necessity! Many people spend little time listening or reading the news. Everyone is noticing what things cost.

No, the economy is not a winning issue for the Republicans at this time. We need to solve cost of living issues right now.

The GOP has done NOTHING to support Pres Trump's full Agenda. Why would any voter support the GOP? Where is an Actual full year FY26 Budget? Health Care Reform? A bill implementing Trump's EOs and DOGE Cuts? The SAVE Act? Cemsus rewrite? Reining in Rogue Judges? If Congress was actually doing Something, ANYTHING, there would be enthusiasm by voters. As it is - Screw the worthless ass GOP!

Listen to Trump. Get rid of the filibuster and get things done while you have the chance.

If the Republicans want to stay in the game, they will have to fight fire with fire. They must do something big and radical to bring down the cost of living across the board for all Americans, young, old and in-between. What ever international successes are achieved, if they don't show large improvements on consumers daily lives, they are meaningless. People are bombarded continuously by the MSM with fairy tales and after enduring pain for so long people will fall for the false promises.

Yes. However, if ya'll think back just a few months ago to around February, you'll remember Pres Trump stating that the economy wont change overnight. It will take some time to roll back the destruction Biden/Harris caused to our economy. Republicans are winning the economy back...give it a minute and STOP BEING DISTRACTED PEOPLE!!!!!! Get OFF "social media," turn off your damn tv's, put your nose to the grindstone, enjoy your family time and...voila(!), this time next year the economy will be sitting pretty. (-:

If they’re going to focus on the economy and cost of living , which they should do, they should talk about long term with a bit of short term suffering to get there. Tariffs and all the foreign investment in our country aren’t a quick fix and will take time to materialize, but should definitely pay off in the long run. Becoming independent and no longer depending on countries with much lower standard of living than ours wont happen overnight. We can’t compete with them on a equal scale without becoming dependent on them and if they were to decide to cut us off then we’d be in a real fix.

Not in Connecticut still paying high taxes still paying high electricity bills still paying high gas prices we have not had any relief at all all . honestly, I don’t understand how old people survive.
