RFK Jr. Again Falls Under Attack From Democrats
The DNC ramps up attacks to prevent the third-party candidate from gaining ballot access.
What’s happening: Democrats are escalating attacks toward independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to prevent him from gaining ballot access. As the long-shot third-party candidate continues to garner significant support in polls, Democrats are concerned he could be a spoiler for Joe Biden.
Why it matters: By working to prevent a third-party candidate from gaining ballot access, Democrats cast doubt on the legitimacy of their purported aim to “strengthen” democracy.
Seeking disqualifications: National and state-level Democrats are taking action to have Kennedy booted from ballots. His campaign already survived a challenge from Hawaii Democrats, who tried to remove him on a technicality.
Targeting No Labels: Democrats are also working behind the scenes to stop No Labels, the political group focused on launching a third-party run.
Previously: The DNC’s fear of third-party candidates is likely inspired by history. Donald Trump's margin of victory over Hillary Clinton was less than the combined votes won by Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein in key battleground states.
Not just the DNC: Facebook and Instagram recently blocked RFK Jr.’s new 30-minute political ad, stifling his message. Meta, the parent company of both platforms, claimed it was a mistake. The campaign argued that the move “raises concerns about free speech and election integrity.” The pro-Kennedy American Values PAC is threatening a lawsuit.
The other side: The GOP understands that Kennedy threatens Trump’s campaign, but it is not investing nearly the resources as the DNC.
