Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is overhauling the nation’s organ transplant system after a federal investigation uncovered “disturbing practices.”
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a part of HHS, found that organ procurement organizations (OPOs) began the donation process on patients who still showed signs of life. Kennedy announced new reforms to hold these organizations accountable and decertify contractors who fail to comply.
