This is all Kabuki theater, IMO. If Trump wanted a treaty, he would have sent diplomat Rubio, not a realtor dupe of the Kremlin. Trump knows it is a waste of time making peace deals with the Kremlin. The goal is to get Europe to pay for its own defense or collapse to Islam and the Kremlin.

I did trust Witkoff, until now. That doesn't mean I don't think he's to be trusted. Maybe he is, and maybe he isn't.

I realize more than ever that the use of language really sets anyone. For example, the word "leaked" carries a connotation of sneaking around. And "secret"--well, in politics and international drama, can anything good be found in secrets?

What if this piece were written with less loaded language? Of course, you might expect that from a former freshman writing instructor.

I just don't really know what to make of it. But, then, I've been sick for more than a week and lose 30 IQ points in the first two days and 5 points per day thereafter.

I really get tired of expectations that diplomatic efforts have to be completely open with no secret meetings, as if diplomacy has always been like that. I would love to know if Fitzpatrick never had secret meetings in his campaign discussions, and if he's never had closed door meetings in Congress, he's probably not a very good congressman. And Lieu was obviously looking for a soundbite that would get him attention. Lastly, is there any discussion or negotiation that doesn't get leaked? I can see discussions including each side deciding who was going to leak information.

I don't believe Mr. Witkoff will be successful. Or anyone. Putin is not really interested in negotiating. Mr. Trump should have just stayed out of that conflict. He still has time. He has made enough attempts.
