Tensions Flare Between Blue and Red State Republicans

As a conservative fiscal hawk, I support downsizing the bureaucracy and stopping the wasteful spending in our government. While we need compassion for the truly needy, we don't need to subsidize able-bodied citizens who should be working. Nor should we favor one state, district over the nation's well-being. Unfortunately, some states wish to tax their citizens into oblivion; those people need to speak up and force a change or move out. Compromise can be helpful when it benefits all parties, but not when it means the continued drowning in debt by our government.

More compromise is needed. More forward thinking. Let’s be strong together rather than fighting for personal agendas.

Even though the new Trump-voters hold disparate views on a number of issues, it is excruciating to consider compromising on the issue of life or (D)eath. The sacred cow of (D)'s is the right to eliminate your own baby. A "moderate" republican is one who wants to continue funding the Death Factory of "Planned" Parenthood?

We should work on Republican unity, to take the opportunity to finally get something done as a party. No bill is perfect. No bill gives everyone everything they want out of it. If the spending cuts are not as large as some folks would like, you have to start somewhere and refine the policies with adjustments as needed later. But, start!

In general, I am against compromising on Conservative principles. However, in the case of the current Budget bill, I am willing to concede on spending cuts in order to get this bill passed. I want this bill in place to stabilize the economy, which should lead to robust gains in the stock market and our pocket books. I want a Trump legislative victory. I want a Red Wave in the mid-terms. Once the GOP has solid, significant majorities in both Houses, the serious business of cutting spending can begin.

Politics is messy. And it gets messier when you have narrow majorities. Compromise is required even though you feel hypocritical. The question is whether you are moving the needle in the right direction. Next time, you move the needle a bit more. It's called incrementalism. Democrats have practiced it for decades. Now, we conservatives have to use it too, rather than viewing things as all or nothing. Take what you can get when you can get it and live to fight another day.

Our government functions with compromises from each side which is why government operates in the mediocre middle.

We've seen the Dem. party being dissed by voters from every state, due to their disorganization and now that voters have their hearts' desire, a Trump admin., it would be fool-hardy for them to continue their silly infighting, that will only sour public opinion against them. Instead of each individual trying to make a name for themselves in order to be recognized for the next election, We, the People would like to see... and hear cooperation within the Rep. Party! Stop your childish bickering and find some common ground on which we can all rally around.

It's not even about compromise in reality. You don't have these issues and standoffs when you have logical, rational and moral individuals filling out the roles of government, period. The "Democrat" Party hasn't existed for a long time as it was infiltrated, compromised and corrupted and is now infested with radical commies, socialists and marxists and is unrecognizable as it exists today. So tread cautiously my conservative Republican friends as these so called "Blue State Moderate Republicans" might be running yet another infiltration operation in this day and age. Think about it, anyone who opposes the defunding, although should be shut down, of Planned Parenthood (aka - anti-life abortion racket) is no Republican of any sort.. These Leftist parasites are losing the war against America, so they are looking for any avenue to remain relevant and push their agenda. Read the room folks..

Failing to compromise is what creates gridlock and the perception of chaos in the Republican House. It seems as though our representatives have forgotten the basis of politics, compromise. They are reminded of how the founding fathers managed to create our constitution over significant differences of opinion. That compromise has resulted in the most revered constitution in the world.

No. Trump was not elected to compromise, but to deliver the changes supported by the vast majority of those who elected him. Compromising when you have the means to effect positive change and reverse decades of disastrous leftist policies will only disenfranchise republican voters and make a return to power easier for the Democratic Party.

No compromise on essentials! Trump didn’t promise to defund Planned Parenthood to my knowledge but it NEEDS to be done. Conservatives are opposed to murder of innocents, this is a huge blight on our nation. We have a Cristian backbone as a nation, it affects everything!

Simply put: There is room for compromise on some issues, but some issues are so morally important that there can be no compromise (the murder of unborn babies via abortion and the mutilation of children via "Gender Delusion Affirming Care" come to mind as prime examples). Deciding which issue goes into which category is the real trick. So often, the GOP--the "Gutless Old Party"--has either put too much into the "no compromise" basket, and thus scuttled the possibility of getting anything done at all; or they have put too much in the "compromise" basket and so diluted conservative principles that a Republican majority has become essentially meaningless as they hand the Demon-crats almost everything (if not everything) they want. The tired old formula seems to always ring true: Democrats act like Republicans to get elected, and when they are in office they act like Democrats. Republicans act like Republicans to get elected, and when they are in office they act like Democrats.

It's a careful balancing act they have to play. If compromise is required to maintain Republican control of the government, I'm all for it. If we could keep more conservative values and still maintain control, then don't compromise. It's all about making sure democrud never gain control again.

Deliberation and compromise is what congress is supposed to do, but unfortunately the democrats have kept in lock step pushing an agenda that does not honestly deliberate or compromise. Republicans, at this time, must do so the same or loose this historic opportunity to shut down the dangerous anti-American agenda. They can compromise later!

It is the "art of the deal"! Maintain power, even at the cost of small compromises. Then over time address your deeper agenda , and work it through slowly with ample arguments to bolster you view. Trying to ram controversial ideals through loses support, and can turn to an advantage for the other side that is well prepared for the emotional argument . Republicans need to learn patience and the long term approach, courting public opinion over time. All need to begin with economic education. Starting in lefty schools from kindergarten to advanced degrees.

Yes, we can’t let infighting destroy our path to making America great again. Our opponents are not other Republicans, it’s the left. We have to demonstrate that unlike the Left, we can tolerate dissent within our ranks.

I've always found our 2 party system kind of ridiculous, there are clearly multiple visions for what the GOP should look like moving forward. Sadly, Republicans can't simply split into more ideologically consistent parties because under our current system, we would simple lose everything. Our current GOP basically operates as a European coalition, and they need to act like it, rather than pretending they are a unified force when they are clearly not.

Compromise is great if done wisely BUT(!) why should be have SALT compromise? The high taxes in NY???? Where are their taxes used or wasted? Possibly NY has to become more fiscal and not ask the rest of us for compromise

Are blue state Republicans RINOs? It appears so. Maybe we need to shelve major compromise legislation until after the midterms. That would be a gamble but IF we can win more seats from red state dems the RINOs would be less a threat. SALT and planned parenthood are obvious no goes for every Republican..... let us be careful of compromise.
