Trump Attacks Thomas Massie as the Lone GOP Dissenter

The president is furious that the Kentuckian libertarian refused to vote to fund the government.

House Republicans passed a continuing resolution to fund the government through September. All but one GOP member voted for it: Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY). Massie, the House’s boldest libertarian and fiscal hawk, has earned a reputation for bucking party leadership and going his own way.

But his “no” vote infuriated President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly attacked the congressmen in a series of social media posts and announced he would seek to primary Massie next year. Trump’s attack sparked backlash from some Republicans, who sided with Massie as the lone House member pushing back against what he views as exorbitant government spending.
