Trump Demands Tariffs Over Canadian Wildfires

Everyone is to blame. Those who don’t want to use proven forest management as well as those who complain about cost and don’t want to have their taxes increased.

"Who/what do you think deserves the blame for the Canadian wildfires?" Trump. He is being his normal pure asinine asshole self when it comes to anything to do with anything Canada. There is no other country that gets treated worse, by Trump, than Canada. Trump needs to learn what the word "respect" means and start employing it. After all, Canada is a very long time US ally and valuable trading partner. I also find it interesting that any so-called right wing news publication never even mentions all the wildfires in Minnesota and Wisconsin, (raging at the same time as those in Ontario,) contributes to immensely also to the wildfire smoke. Sometimes, the right wing political propaganda is as bad as the MSM left wing political propaganda.

I'm a Canadian living in northern Ontario. All the talk about Canada "managing its wilderness forests" in laughable in the extreme. Has anyone talking this way driven down a Canadian road in the middle of the forest and seen the extensive mile-upon-endless-mile of trees that we have? I doubt it. For sure, Trump and all the state governors complaining haven't. To say that we should manage our wilderness forests is like telling a country somewhere that they should manage the rainstorms that fall on their land because it runs off into another country's territory. It's like little children asking their daddy to stop the crows from cawing because they don't like the sound.

For however much you might not like the smoke and dust in the air, it's called nature. Deal with it. We are.

During the massive Camp Fire in No cal air quality all the way into the Okanagan Valley here in BC was affected for a couple of weeks as I recall. With hazy skies, smoke and particulate in the air and orange skies. We are all part of North America.

While Canada can admittedly do more to manage their forestry lands and other natural resources, so can the US. I noticed and heard from Californians that the effective forestry practices in the US have also not been maintained leading to more and more massive fires. Don’t worry. Canada did their fair share of complaining when we were receiving the poor air quality.

Maybe instead of playing some weird badminton match with insults, Ford and Trump could have some smart people from every side of the argument sit down and do what is good for North America.

Complaining about air quality from natural happenings borders on whether or not the sun will shine tomorrow. Talk about stupidity.

Once again, environmental radicalism is idiotic, just like in many places in the USA, where there is poor or absolutely no forest management!

Canada is no more to blame then the US when they have wild fires.

Forest management would seem to be the most logical and common sense approach, but green initiatives seem to create issues with both of those philosophy’s. Seems having controlled logging by private logging companies might be a win win for helping the problem to a certain degree. Lessens tax dollars burden, creates jobs, and increases lumber supply which in turn may lower lumber costs and everything that lumber is used for. Probably won’t eliminate the problem but certainly seems like it would be a step in a positive direction.

Canada is just as responsible for these fires as California was in 2024 when policymakers consistently failed to effectively eradicate, or at least seriously reduce, the voluminous amount of ground vegetation (fire fuel) growing on hillsides that are located in historically windy areas (Santa Ana winds).

I live in Michigan, one of the hardest hit states for the Smoke. Here, it has affected every single person. When I have to go outside, I can see it, smell it and I can taste it. No blue skies. No open windows. I hurry in and out of my doors to try to keep the smoke out of my home. My air conditioner has been running day and night for days. The worst thing about it is it is hazardous to one’s health. I’m 80 years old and absolutely do worry about being outside at all. I don’t know what the answer is. I realize forest management in Canada is pretty close to impossible, but from what I have read, they don’t too much or anything to try to control forest fires.

Liberalism and poor forest management is to blame. The United States is guilty too! I live in Washington state and when I was a kid in the 70’s we did not have forest fires like this. In our state the first approach is to let the fire burn out and then when it gets out of control declare an emergency. The forests is left alone and the fires are considered part of “the natural process”. Now there is a disease in the forest which kills the trees and leaves the forest more vulnerable to fires. It doesn’t seem like the temperature has gone up so I call BS on that. It seems warmer when I was a kid. DNR minimally clears the forest. There was a fire and the dead, black trees were left up and last winter we had a heavy wind and rain storm and they all blew down to be more kindling. There needs to be more FACT and less idealism in the government.

With current drone technology these fires could be both lit and detected. Why aren't they extinguished but left to burn?

City people talking about rural and forestry problems?!? Living in the PNW forest, far remote and off grid, it is city people who create most wildfire problems. People come to do things that are NOT legal in the city. Then when a problem develops they pack up and go home post haste. Lighting camp fires in the wind, shooting exploding targets and tracers, running without exhaust baffles or spark arrestors and on and on. It is beyond comprehension.

There should be another law.

248 Air Quality Index? It was 987 in Michigan's upper peninsula--Keweenaw County last Wednesday, Thursday! The fire chief there said it actually got to 1000. Then it hovered 600-700 for a few days.
