The story

China has had decades of unparalleled economic growth. Hundreds of millions were brought out of poverty. But now, that growth is slowing. And it’s happening exactly as the United States and other countries are pushing back on China’s unfair, but advantageous trade practices.

I approve of what the Trump Administration is doing on this front. My concern is not having enough time to see it through, either because the country stupidly opts to elect a Democrat Socialist, or the GOP candidate decides to distance themselves from Trump policies (also ignorant). I want to see more "Made in America" labels and have options other than buying from Chinese sweat shops.

China's approach to business (capitalism) will never change, they cheat (tariffed & non-tariffed goods, currency manipulation, black-market goods, intellectual property theft, etc.)! It seems to be part of their culture? And on top of that, it's a Communist Country where people have few rights, and ultimately we may go to war with them over Taiwan! Given that, the only way forward is what Trump is doing - to bring key manufacturing capabilities (pharmaceuticals, electronics, battery & solar panel production, steel/aluminum production, textile industry, tool & die production, rear earth mining, etc. a long list) back to the US.

I would personally like to begin my weaning from Chinese goods. It won't be easy, but they are the free world's #1 enemy.

While I agree with "weaning [oneself] from Chinese goods", I disagree that they are "the free world's #1 enemy" -- that title belongs to Islam. Interestingly, each works its way to World Domination: China, via economics; Islam, via "The Great Replacement". Which will win? China hates Islam (see posts about Uyghur repression), so perhaps it will come to a dog-eat-dog conflict, rather than an "equitable" resolution.

When a nation based on freedom and democratic values (small "d") enriches and grants prosperity to a Communist nation, the communist nation does NOT become more free and "democratic"--IT BECOMES MORE FIRMLY ENTRENCHED AND EMPOWERED IN ITS REPRESSIVE COMMUNISM!!! Under America's foolhardy leadership, Western nations have basically become Chinese Communist ENABLERS over the past half-century. It remains to be seen if this naive stupidity on our part will result in our own destruction. Trump's reforms are excellent (evoking a powerful "It's about time" sentiment), but perhaps they will prove to be too little, too late (especially considering the GOP--"Gutless Old Party"--has a magnificent ability to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory). We will have nobody to blame but ourselves (in a collective sense--too bad the rest of us have to go down with the ship, also).

What President Trump is doing is the right thing to balance world trade, especially with China. China had taken full advantage of the United States far too long. This is how they built an economic and subsequently a military superpower to just about every other country of the world. Sadly we took their bait to free trade, thus losing many jobs here and China's threatening world domination. And then here We've allowed China to buy farmland close to some of our military bases. What's wrong with that picture? Why do we allow this to happen?

They've been at war with all countries but the Soviet Union and its puppet, North Korea, since '49, mostly economic war. Nixon was an idiot, and Bush worse, to not see that. Shades of Ford and the NAZIs in the '30s. Anything to make a buck at the cost in blood of your country.

The USA should ban all foriegn imports from any state that does not have fair trade rules. Additionally, we should ban trade with foriegn nations that do not mirror our human rights laws and EPA standard.

Senator Goldwater predicted China would overtake the US in 20 years if it shed the yoke of communism. Since they didn't shed the yoke, they're on thir way to failure
