Crime rates across major American cities have plummeted to historic lows, with the US murder rate dropping to its lowest level since 1900.

The decline comes after President Donald Trump deployed federal resources and, in some cases, the National Guard to cities struggling with violent crime. Washington, DC, which saw a federal takeover of its police department in 2025, recorded a 40 percent drop in homicides.

Most cities where Trump surged federal law enforcement has seen crime decline, while Los Angeles quickly pushed Trump’s troops out and has since seen violent crime described by the LAPD chief as a “mixed bag.”
