Trump Will Fire Thousands of Deep State Employees If Elected

Former President Trump already has a plan to reshape the federal government if he wins in 2024. It’s a direct attack on the deep state.

First, what is the deep state? Although the term has conspiratorial associations, the ‘deep state’ refers to a specific subset of bureaucratic federal employees. These tens of thousands of employees are ideologically liberal, unelected, and have immense influence over policy and federal direction. While administrations change, they stay.

Opposition from the deep state prevented the duly-elected President Trump from shifting the federal government’s direction during his term. A clear example is Trump’s efforts to withdraw from Afghanistan. He had to push through severe opposition from unelected ideologues within the Pentagon and State Department and still made little progress.

Trump wants to fire a lot of them if he’s reelected. While new presidents usually replace around 4,000 appointees, an incoming Trump Administration would classify civil servants who influence policy as “schedule F.” Those under this classification, around 50,000 federal employees, could be fired. Trump’s allies, however, claim only a small segment would need to go.

A mistake Trump won’t make again: The former president has complained that one of his administration’s shortcomings was staffing the administration with misaligned personnel. To prevent the same mistake twice, Trump-aligned organizations are building databases of vetted and faithful individuals who could fill the administration in a second round.

How radical is the whole plan? Liberal outlets claim that such attempts are akin to coups and fascist takeovers. The reality, though, is that Democrats essentially control the federal government through the deep state. Trump’s plan would only tilt the balance of a system that currently rewards the liberal establishment.

Big picture: We’re getting closer to 2024, and Former President Trump is ready for it. If he’s given a second chance, there are a lot of mistakes he won’t make again.
