Trump Vows Military Crackdown on Chicago

The people of Chicago should vote on action of having troops bring law and order to the city. Of course their leaders have already expressed their distaste of having such 'halp' in crime control. Do they think that, after all these years of criminal activity they can suddenly be in control? Or do they like being in the limelight, their names mentioned every day on media 'news'? Of course, Chicago has a tradition of harboring felons that have sometimes had their stories told on the Big Screen. Who knows why the leaders prefer to allow their citizens be in constant and real danger?

As much as I want law and order restored in Chicago, I think Trump should take a stance that the people have voted for Johnson and Pritzker and now need to reap what they have sewn. Let Chicago falter and let people get outraged enough to outvote the teachers’ union and get good leadership. The Democrats HAVE TO COMPLETELY FAIL-as in no way to justify their damage to the state and city-for this to change. Pritzker said earlier in the week that residents in the state that don’t like him and don’t like his policies should just leave. With that invitation, think about what would happen if people did take him up on that proposition. The only people left would have to deal with their own mess and they wouldn’t have anyone to save them from their own mistakes. Sometimes people have to get what they asked for.

Chicago votes for their leaders. However, it is terrible for the people who live in places that are so dangerous. Not sure legally Trump can do something to help but it would be a good thing if he could. Other cities also deal with people who can move farther away from city and then have no vote but still travel into city to work. Democrat cities are known for allowing cities to be filled with crime and the homeless (usually on drugs or mentally ill.). This has happened since the 1960’s. We as a people tend to “move away from the problems” rather than attempt to solve problems because we live in a big country and we can.😥

Should we look historically to when the federal government sent National Guard into cities like Little Rock to protect school kids of color to attend public schools. I agreed absolutely with that action, so I’m inclined to agree with such actions where irrefutable evidence indicates a need to protect American citizens

There can be no defense for the 58 shootings in Chicago (including 8 murders) over Labor Day weekend. Moreover, Johnson is making a terrible situation much worse by refusing to assist ICE officers. How can Johnson possibly defend his actions in the face of such failure to uphold law and order? His primary duty should be the safety of the residences of Chicago. The people of Illinois hopefully will recognize such abject municipals miss management and remove Pritzker and Johnson from office. No, it is a clear constitutional violation. What Trump should do is rally the people against their leadership, so the people force the change. If the mayor really only has a 26 percent approval rating, it shouldn't be difficult for the people to make a change.

DC is very different from a city in an actual state. It's really sad to see cities like Chicago be in such a deplorable mess, but it would be a very bad overstep for Trump to send in the troops. The people of the state must want it enough for themselves to demand change.

Focus first on helping clean up states that want / ask for intervention. The criminal element will move to states that permit criminal activity. When it gets bad enough the affected states will ask for help. Problem solved.

I say yes. Though the people who voted Johnson , and Lightfoot before him, into office are getting what they voted for, America cannot afford to sit back and watch one of the country’s once greatest cities decline and self destruct. We must not allow Pritzker and Johnson to dictate terms jeopardizing the safety of everyday American citizens who call Chicago home. If the governor and mayor will not voluntarily stop their failed efforts to stop rampant crime and protect their citizens then the federal government must.

Depending on the assigned duties, it could be a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, which was at the heart of the recent federal ruling against the use of National Guard troops in LA. Regardless of Trump's statements, it was clearly the Founding Fathers' explicit intent to place limits and restrictions on the power of the Executive branch.

The first priority is to remove illegals from “sanctuary cities.” Fight that battle on the streets and in the courts BEFORE going all in.

I admire President Trump for his attention to high crime conditions, anywhere in the US. All US citizens deserve equal protection from crime. Our government is structured to protect citizens from both foreign and domestic threat. That being said, I am extremely concerned about the president alone using the federal government use of military forces for whatever the president alone believes he/she should do. This has eerie elements of a future use of the military to take over the country by military power. I would like to see requirements of at least a majority of Congress to approve the presidents authority to take such steps on his own in each case.

I too hate to side with Pritzker here, but he’s right in that Trump does not have the right to do this. I would like to see Trump get back to doing things that make sense: cutting spending, cutting capital gains taxes, divestment from Intel… a balanced budget amendment, a size of government amendment (it can only spend - debt or tax) a certain percentage of GDP, protecting our elections from illegal voters… this nonsense with threatening governors, tariffs (he doesn’t have the power to levy taxes), and the crony capitalism deal with Intel are no part of making America great again
