Trump’s Plans for a Record-Breaking First Day
Over 200 executive orders are expected to be signed, many of which will reverse Biden-era policies.
What’s happening: Today, on Inauguration Day, 47th US President Donald Trump is expected to sign over 200 executive orders (EO), a record-setting first wave of policy reforms. Most of Trump’s orders are expected to be “border heavy;” Trump reportedly plans to declare a state of emergency on the southern border and will sign orders to prepare his mass deportations.
Border details: Trump will direct the military to take immediate action to fully secure the southern border. He’ll also reinstate policies like “Remain in Mexico” and launch task forces to eliminate criminal cartels, designating them as foreign terrorist organizations to permit him to use expanded security measures.
More EOs: Many of the other executive orders will involve unleashing American energy, cutting costs for families, and changing unfair and unproductive hiring practices across the federal government.
On energy, Trump plans to end Biden-era restrictions on drilling, expand US oil and gas production, and prioritize energy independence, particularly in Alaska. His executive orders will pause offshore wind leases and eliminate mandates for electric vehicles — a burdensome Biden-Harris agenda item.
On the bureaucracy and DEI, Trump will also reform the federal government by reasserting presidential control over the career workforce. This includes merit-based hiring practices, ending Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, and restoring in-person work requirements for federal employees.
On free speech issues, Trump also wants to end the “weaponization” of government and “restore freedom of speech,” taking steps to curb federal censorship. Additionally, the president-elect is preparing to “suspend the security clearances for the 51 national security officials who ‘lied’ about Hunter BIden's laptop ahead of the 2020 presidential election,” per Fox News.
To help reduce costs for families, Trump will also sign directives to de-regulate parts of the economy. This aims to lower inflation, make everyday life more affordable, and undo policies from the Biden administration that Trump believes harm economic growth.
Why it matters: By asserting control over the federal bureaucracy and reversing many of the previous administration’s policies, Trump aims to reorient the US government away from progressive ideologies and toward improving the quality of life for American citizens and restoring national sovereignty.

From the left: A detailed list of Trump’s agenda items was created by The New York Times to track his many promises. The Times expressed skepticism that the 47th president would accomplish his list of goals, remarking that his success would “be determined by historians years after he leaves the Oval Office.” However, even passing half of his massive list of policy priorities would reshape American life.
