Who Trump’s Running Mate for 2024 Could Be
What he’s looking for: Inside sources have hinted that former President Donald Trump is seeking a running mate who appeals to white female voters, given they broke from Joe Biden in 2020. As proven in his 2016 choice of Mike Pence, Trump is likely looking for someone loyal to MAGA yet dull enough to not outshine him.
His top pick is apparently former news anchor and Arizona gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake. In her bid for Arizona governor, Lake repeatedly showed her willingness to defend Trump. As a woman, she could potentially make up for Trump’s dwindling appeals among that demographic. Lake carries a downside in her theatricality, which could potentially outdo Trump’s. Nonetheless, Lake won the vice president straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference and remains one of Trump’s closest confidants.
Other picks: Reportedly, a few of Trump’s advisers have speculated that he could choose his former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, though she has mounted a presidential campaign against him. Other possible female candidates that have been thrown around include his former press secretary and Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, and New York Rep. Elise Stefanik.
