_WHAT’S HAPPENING_
Mexico’s most powerful drug lord, Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” was killed Sunday during a military operation in his home state of Jalisco.
The raid, supported by American intelligence, triggered widespread retaliatory violence across the country. Cartel members set vehicles ablaze, erected more than 250 roadblocks across 20 states, and launched coordinated attacks that left dozens dead, including members of Mexico’s National Guard.
US personnel in multiple cities were ordered to shelter in place, and American tourists were stranded as flights were canceled. Mexican officials say at least 73 people died in the operation and its aftermath.
