A hantavirus outbreak linked to the cruise ship MV Hondius has triggered global health monitoring and quarantine protocols, with 41 Americans now under surveillance for potential exposure.
Three passengers died from the virus after an elderly Dutch couple contracted the Andes strain during travel in Argentina before boarding the ship. Seventeen American citizens were evacuated to quarantine facilities in Nebraska and Georgia, where they will remain under observation for 42 days. Health officials maintain the risk to the general public is very low, as the Andes strain requires very close contact for transmission between humans.
