_WHAT’S HAPPENING_
President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that the United States and Iran were close to finalizing a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address Iran's nuclear program. The proposed agreement would include a memorandum of understanding to end the fighting and allow 30 days for nuclear negotiations.
However, Trump officials quickly clarified that while an agreement to reopen the Strait may be close, a broader deal to end the war and lift sanctions on Iran is not expected anytime soon. The White House emphasized its "no dust, no dollars" policy, meaning Iran must surrender its enriched uranium stockpile before receiving any sanctions relief. Iranian negotiators are now in Doha, Qatar, for consultations as both sides work through remaining disagreements.
