WHAT WE'RE WATCHING

🇺🇦 Zelensky pushed back against Trump’s peace ambitions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated he understands Putin's mentality better than Americans, asserting Putin has no intention of stopping the war. He also expressed his frustration with the Trump administration for diverting 20,000 anti-drone missiles meant for Ukraine, instead sending them to American troops through the Middle East. His comments directly challenge Trump's view that the conflict can be resolved, revealing a deep divide in their assessments of the Russian leader.

⛵️ Israel intercepted Greta Thunberg’s Gaza boat. The Israeli military intercepted the boat carrying Greta Thunberg and activists attempting to breach the Gaza blockade, despite warnings from Israel's defense minister. While the activists accused Israel of "kidnapping," Israel treated them humanely, giving them water and sandwiches, in stark contrast to how Hamas likely would have treated them. Israel redirected the aid to Gaza, and the activists are being returned to their home countries.

🫏 DNC chair threatened to leave over infighting. Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin expressed deep frustration with Vice Chair David Hogg in a private meeting. Martin stated Hogg's plan to fund primary challenges against incumbents has "destroyed any chance" for him to show leadership or raise funds. The leaked recording reveals significant internal strife within the party leadership as they navigate post-election strategy.

📺 ABC suspended a correspondent for blasting Stephen Miller. ABC News suspended senior national correspondent Terry Moran for a late-night social media rant calling Trump adviser Stephen Miller a "world-class hater." ABC stated the now-deleted post violated their impartiality standards, while Vice President JD Vance called it a "vile smear." This incident highlights ongoing tensions between supposedly neutral journalists and Trump administration officials.

Feds crack down on anti-ICE riots

WHAT’S HAPPENING_

Violent riots erupted in Los Angeles after protesters demanded the release of illegal migrants being held in a federal immigration detention center.

Protesters waving foreign flags clashed with law enforcement, set vehicles on fire, and attacked federal agents. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials say their agents were vastly outnumbered and left without local support for hours. There have so far been nearly 40 protesters arrested.

In response, President Donald Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to restore order and protect federal personnel. The Trump administration has accused local leaders of enabling the chaos, while California officials claim the federal response is politically motivated.

_THE FACTS_

  • ICE arrested 44 individuals in LA for immigration violations during workplace raids.

  • In response, rioters attacked federal buildings, set fires, and injured law enforcement officers by hurling rocks. Videos also show protesters making Molotov cocktails.

  • Protesters waved Mexican flags and graffitied messages like “F**k ICE,” “Death to Amerikka,” and “Dead Cops.”

  • ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons said LAPD took over two hours to respond to calls for help as agents were surrounded.

  • The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team has arrived in Los Angeles to help maintain order.

  • Federal officials say the protests were incited by “violent rhetoric” from California leadership, including LA Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom.

  • President Trump ordered his top military and defense officials to “liberate Los Angeles from the migrant invasion.”

  • Meanwhile, Democrats like Gov. Newsom have portrayed events as having been calm “until Trump got involved,” and demanded the administration “rescind their unlawful deployment of troops” in LA County.
