WHAT’S HAPPENING

Last month, President Trump signed a sweeping security agreement with Denmark and Greenland at the UN headquarters in New York City, granting the United States permanent military access and expanded base rights on the strategically vital Arctic island.

While Trump had previously floated the idea of purchasing Greenland outright, the agreement preserves Danish sovereignty while dramatically expanding American influence in the region.

YES. Like his style or not, but the Deal-Making President gets it done. He floats outlandish statements such as our "taking" Greenland, making people lose their minds. Then he gets what he really wanted all along.

Absolutely! Ranks up there with the Louisiana purchase.

It seems it's a good deal and should be beneficial to all!

The military aspects of the deal alone make this a good deal. Add in the mineral rights and that just boosts it to a much higher level. The icing on the cake is removing the necessities of nato approval for future projects, including making Greenland independent of rule by Denmark. The US wins in many aspects and the people of Greenland benefit in a big way as well. This is definitely a "win-win situation."

It's a great success until... someday we get a President that gives it all back. Remember "we" gave away the Panama Canal and then China moved in.

I had a similar thought too. Democrats seem to make it their mission to undo any and all things Trump does.

What happens if Trump pulls the US out of NATO?

Avatar

I believe the agreement was between Denmark and the US. While NATO certainly has an interest, NATO was not a signatory.

Yes, the art of the deal.

Looks and sounds like a win-win to me, with both sides securing what they wanted. Personally, I am most interested in what lies underground. The potential for huge resource discoveries is tantalizing and may, in fact, be the primary motivator.

Yes! Way to go! Win win! My aunt’s husband that my Uncle has been in Greenland in service during war time in the 1960’s in other country! Instead station him in Vietnam, they stationed him in Greenland.

Trump did what he always does, makes a deal that benefits the US in the both the short and long term. He looks at things differently than most in DC because he thinks like business man not a politician, thank goodness for that.
