WHAT WE'RE WATCHING

📉 Trump fired the person responsible for job report numbers. After the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that they had overestimated job growth in May and June, President Donald Trump fired Commissioner Erika McEntarfer, saying she was trying to make him “look bad.” BLS has repeatedly had to alter numbers months after they were released. Last year, they revealed they had overestimated the number of jobs created in America by around a million.

🗳 Republicans are going to change how presidential nominations are voted on in the Senate. Democrats have not allowed a single voice vote or unanimous consent on a single civilian nominee for the first time in modern history, leaving a backlog of over 100 nominations. As a result, Senate Majority Leader Thune intends to change the rules to cut back dramatically on how much time can be spent on debating nominations (currently, each nominee can have two hours of debate).

⚖️ Biden’s anti-Trump prosecutor is now under investigation for Hatch Act violations. Jack Smith, who led investigations into President Trump’s involvement in election interference and the Mar-a-Lago documents case, was referred to the Office of Special Counsel by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AK) for having potentially engaged in political activities during the 2024 election, a violation of the Hatch Act. While it is not a criminal referral, violating the Hatch Act can result in fines.

🇮🇱 A video released by Hamas showed an Israeli hostage being forced to dig his own grave. Evyatar Dvaid, who was kidnapped during Hamas’ October 7th attack, appears emaciated in the video, a sign that he is being starved by captors. The video reportedly infuriated President Donald Trump. There are an estimated 20 hostages still living in Gaza; the bodies of 30 more remain there as well.
