Nine daily news sources that conservatives read, side by side: what each one costs, how it reports, how the independent bias raters score it, and who owns and funds it. Every cell links to a source. We publish Upward News, so we held ourselves to the same test, including the parts that don't flatter us.

Upward News sends its full daily briefing free, and membership, which adds our feature stories and the daily audio edition, starts at $1.99 for the first month. The Daily Signal and the Daily Caller are free to read, and 1440 is free but positions itself as neutral. The Dispatch and The Free Press keep much of their work behind a paywall, Tangle paywalls its Friday and Sunday editions, and Morning Wire is free on podcast apps but sits inside the paid Daily Wire membership business.
Media Bias/Fact Check rates The Dispatch, Tangle and 1440 High for factual reporting, Upward News and National Review Mostly Factual, and The Free Press, The Daily Signal, the Daily Caller and the Daily Wire Mixed. It lists failed fact checks for the Daily Caller (8), The Daily Signal (2), the Daily Wire (2) and National Review (1), and none for Upward News. Ad Fontes Media gives The Daily Signal a reliability score of 20.29, in its "Unreliable, Problematic" range.
The Free Press was bought in 2025 by Paramount Skydance, the media company controlled by David Ellison. The Daily Wire, which makes Morning Wire, was seeded by billionaire Farris Wilks and sought outside investment at a $750 million valuation in 2026. National Review gets about 95% of its revenue from donations, The Daily Signal was created and funded by The Heritage Foundation, and the Daily Caller launched with $3 million from Foster Friess. Upward News and Tangle report no outside investors.
AllSides rates Tangle, 1440 and The Free Press Center. They suit readers who want a neutral or mixed view, rather than news written for conservatives.
Trump. Media Bias/Fact Check describes The Daily Signal and the Daily Caller as favorable to Trump. The Dispatch is the most critical of the conservative-leaning outlets here: its founders left Fox News in 2021 in protest of Tucker Carlson's Jan. 6 series. National Review has been mixed, from its 2016 "Against Trump" issue to more balanced coverage since. Upward News's coverage is generally favorable to the administration's policies, while questioning some decisions, such as its approach to Putin.
Israel. The Free Press, the Daily Wire, The Dispatch and National Review are supportive of Israel, and NPR calls The Free Press "staunchly pro-Israel." Tangle takes no outlet position, though its founder, Isaac Saul, wrote in 2025 that he "may just not be a Zionist at all." The Daily Caller has no official position and has run opinion columns critical of US-Israel policy. Upward News's coverage is sympathetic to Israel and critical of anti-Israel activism.
Woke politics. Every conservative-leaning outlet in the chart is critical of DEI and gender ideology, and the Daily Wire produced Matt Walsh's documentary What Is a Woman? The Free Press, which does not call itself conservative, is also critical of progressive views on gender and campus speech. Tangle presents both sides, and 1440 takes no position.
Brand of conservatism. National Review represents traditional movement conservatism, The Dispatch a center-right conservatism separate from populist media, and The Daily Signal Heritage-founded conservatism aligned with the Trump agenda. Upward News is written for conservatives, and Media Bias/Fact Check describes its perspective as moderate conservative.
Each fact comes from the outlet's own website, the published pages of AllSides, Media Bias/Fact Check and Ad Fontes Media, or news reporting from outlets such as Axios, Semafor and Press Gazette, all checked on October 29, 2026. The colored bars are our judgment of what matters to a reader choosing a daily source; the facts underneath them are not. Where an outlet doesn't publish something, we say so rather than guess. We applied the same test to ourselves, which is why the chart shows that our free emails carry ads and that Media Bias/Fact Check rates our factual reporting Mostly Factual. Spotted something out of date? Email [email protected] and we will fix it.
It depends on what you want from it. For a free, five-minute daily briefing written for conservatives, with every non-obvious fact linked to its source, Upward News is built for that. For long center-right analysis, The Dispatch; for a daily podcast, Morning Wire; for the arguments on both sides of one issue, Tangle.
